Google Translate can be fun too!

I love Google Translate and have written a couple of posts on it. It allows to translate a selected text copy/pasted from any source or can translate full page given its URL. It currently supports translation to and from 40+ languages, you can perform translated search and it also provides many tools as bookmarklet that allows you to translate selected text from a web page you are currently viewing, Google toolbar that gives you access to dictionary in a fairly quick way, or the gadget that you can embed in your web page to allow your visitors read your blog/site in language of their choice.

I happened to see the gadget I described above at Ravi Ratlami ji’s blog, whose blog feed, I read everyday being delivered to me via email subscription. He is a writer and poet and blogs primarily in Hindi. He also has a English blog where he mainly carries technical posts. The translation of a post that made me smile is titled ‘Girl’s can’t pub saala’.

The title of the post is a parody of a movie song that originally says ‘Pappu can’t  Dance Saala’, and points to some administrative order that said that females would not be allowed to drink in pubs. Ratlami Ji says in this post that “Indian women can fly planes, join army, climb on Mount Everest, become Prime minister or Chief Minister or the President, but it’s ridiculous in light of recent orders that they can’t drink…”. He adds a small poem at the end. Read this original post here

Translate this page to English and what you see will be as below..

Well translation is not an easy task and to improve the translations Google provides facility to add suggestions. I have included a few ones… Let’s see if they incorporate it or not.
