Sudoku Masters 2008 – Qualifying Round Results Declared
The Results for Qualifying Round of Sudoku Masters 2008, National Sudoku Championship, are here and not encouraging.
Out of the 31 candidates invited for the Finals at Bangalore the organizers are bearing travel and other expenses for only 19 candidates and rest 12 are expected to attend finals at their own expenses.
The 19 candidates (in-fact 15 as 4 are from Bangalore itself) who have been sponsored include 13 from the ones who attended this year’s Qualifying rounds and the rest 6 are there due to being the toppers of the previous years National Sudoku Competition.
In all only 409 candidates participated in the Qualifying Rounds of which 13 were selected as sponsored candidates for final rounds and 12 expected to attend finals at their own expenses.
Compare it with last years competition. Below are numbers from National Sudoku Championship 2007
- Candidates from all over India participated in competition held regionwise (5 regions). Qualifying round for Regional Preliminary Round attended by thousands of candidates.
- 1200 candidates selected from each region for next round (1200×5=6000) to attend Regional Preliminary Round at own expenses.
- 64 candidates selected from each regional attended Regional Rounds held on the same day (2nd half)
- 11 candidates selected from each region (11×5=55) to attend Finals at Mumbai, travelling and lodging expenses paid.
Let’s wait and see who is to attend the 3rd World Sudoku Championship 2008.
The event was low key this time as the emphasis was on quality rather than quality. However the number of candidates invited is very less. Since they are not sponsoring 12 candidates anyway, they could have invited the top 50 as some of the top candidates could have used unfair means and its possible that genuine candidates have missed out.

I tried hard to log in on the 16th March…but was unable to…I this the structuring of the program was not user friendly due to which many people were unable to participate for it….i request, for better publicity of the event the next time and also on paper rather than having it online

I participated and answered questions correctly worth 1027 points. As per point list it is 28th rank. But my name is not even in list of participants. My token id is not shown on the website. What could be the reason? I am an Indian but on that day I was in Norway and attended the competition from here. If this could be a reason?
Also they have no way to contact them.

Quite possible that they checked the IP and finding it from country other than India disqualified you either fearing that if you are out may not be able to attend finals or someone else from your behalf is solving puzzles for you!
… Anyways only 25 were called for finals… you would have missed by 3 ranks

hello . Actually , i have craze about sudoku . i also solve lots of puzzles from net , books and news-papers.
But i cant find the prior information of compititions like this . Can any1 just tell about any upcoming compitition or any contacts on this regards .
