Top Commentators on this Blog
I have always wanted to include "Top Commentators" feature on my blog since the day I came to know about the plugin, but was feeling handicapped as my blog is hosted on wordpress.com and neither this feature is available as default at wordpress.com nor they allow custom plugins to be installed. So that was the end of my desire.
But being handicapped is not a good reason for not doing something that is desired. Where there is will, there is a way. And today I finally decided that I would have "Top Commentators" on my blog, even if it requires me to do it manually. Following this decision I browsed through all 27 comment pages copying 500+ comments to MS-Excel, removing own comments, pingbacks and unapproved comments to come up with 250+ comments by various readers and visitors out of which Top Seven are displayed on the sidebar.
So "Top Commentators" is here on this blog with the only difference that you may not see it updated immediately on commenting, but I intend to update it frequently and all comments since inception of this blog are counted. I don't intend to reset the counter to zero until 2009 or wordpress.com adding "Top Commentators" feature, whatever comes earlier.

Thats a great deal of work for you, but good to see that you will put up the list and that too upto 2009, BTW how many are you going to display?

Considering it’s a fairly popular plugin have you thought about asking Wordpress.com to add it to their plugins? Or is that not allowed (sorry, not really a WP.com user!).
Shame there isn’t an AJAX version you could add in. I applaud your energy to do it manually!

@Nirmal
Per my calculations, no reset for long time will cause very little changes in the list. I hope that wp.com will by then come up with this plugin. There would be 7 commentators in the list.
@Sarah
I haven’t asked them but they do add anything that they feel users should get and that is not going to be abused. Some facilities are available as paid upgrade.I use custom domain and custom css, two of such upgrades. There is no facility/upgrade that allows posting JS/AJAX either!

Your blog not so “handicapped” since there are reader even before you placed that top commentators on the sidebar.
I give a visit as a silent reader usually….

@dott-com
Thanks for regularly visiting. Putting top commentators had yet another reason, giving myself a sense of responsibility, as many silent readers might be stopping reading this blog due to large inactivity.
This blog has been, till now, oriented towards catering visitors following SERPs who leave blog after reading the required page. For them frequency never mattered.
I intend to post as frequently as I was doing it in the beginning, hope I will be successful in it.

This is an awesome feature, I’m going to have to add it to my blog as well. It encourages good participation on a monthly basis, and rewards those who are your most avid readers.

its a goof features….i also used this feature on my blog….but you should keep track who do spam on the site by adding fake comments…

Yes Bhavik, I do keep track of all comments and remove comments that says nothing but “thanks a lot it works…”

That’s too sad phil… (or should I say One trying to imitate him)… you are caught in attempt to hijack the list… at least you should have read the post… list here is created manually and not by plugin… your chances to hijack top commentators list is almost nil here… better luck elsewhere…
