There is Something about Technorati
[digg=http://www.digg.com/software/There_is_Something_about_Technorati] There is something about Technorati and is certainly not in any way related to the movie with similar name. I am surprised how I missed it when collecting statistics for my previous post Get into Technorati Top 100 in 24 Hours.
What is Technorati Authority and Rank? Here is an excerpt from the Technorati Page
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the hightest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.
Since at the lower end of the scale many blogs will have the same Technorati Authority, they will share the same Technorati Rank.
The Technorati Top 100 shows the most popular 100 blogs based on Technorati Authority. The #1 ranked blog is the blog with the most other distinct blogs linking to it in the last 6 months. If your blog's rank is, say 305,316, this indicates that there are 305,315 blog ranks separating your blog from the #1 position.
So if your blog gets Technorati rank 100 it means you have 99 more blogs ahead of you.
Now lets see the Technorati Top 100 list.
The blog at position #100 Pajamas Media have a Technorati Rank #213. There ought to be 212 blogs ahead of it but there are only 99! How did the remaining 113 disappear?

The Top blog #1 that is Engadget have a rank of #9. Where are the other 8 blogs that Engadget should have followed?
|
Blog with Technorati Rank #213 Pajamas Media made it to the Top 100 list but John Chow with a rank of #156 didn't.

Is this behavior explained somewhere by Technorati?
This post popped out of nothing as I intended to post an insight of Technorati this weekend which still remains pending. Readers would have to bear with the post that comes later

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re manually delisting some blogs from the top 100 because of spamming.

Yes, that’s the only thing that makes sense.

I was wondering about this myself. There has to be some internal magic there…
